Mainstream discourse and public memory often describe the Holocaust as an evil almost outside of history, transcending all explanation or comparison.
In this lecture and discussion, we will trace some of how this view of Holocaust memory came to be, and place it in dialogue with the ongoing persecution, detention, and deportation of immigrants and asylum-seekers in the United States. We'll explore these together through the lenses of colonialism, fascism, and racial capitalism, and consider how a transformed and reclaimed memory of the Holocaust might help us build more powerful solidarity between communities, agitate us towards courageous direct action, and deepen our organizing toward a world where all people have the right to live and move freely.
