Zephyr Teachout, who is a Democratic Primary Candidate in the upcoming Gubernatorial Election, will be visiting Bard College on Friday, September 5th to address students, staff and community members, as well as answer questions. This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE), The Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities, and the Difference in Media Project. Prof. Zephyr Teachout spoke at Bard College in October 2012 to speak about the evolution of the idea of campaign finance reform and free speech in American jurisprudence. To view the full video, click here.
Prof Teachout is a professor of law at Fordham University. Her background is in laws governing political behavior domestically and abroad. She is a specialist on corruption and its constitutional history. She received her BA from Yale, her MA from Duke in political science and her JD, summa cum laude, from Duke Law School. She was the national director of the Sunlight Foundation, an organization working to make government more transparent through internet resources. Prof Teachout also co-founded the Fair Trial Initiative, which provides resources to attorneys working on death penalty cases. She has worked as a political consultant to nonprofits, political campaigns and citizen journalism organizations. For Howard Dean's 2004 presidential campaign, she directed internet organizing. More recently she worked at America Coming Together, Current TV and was a fellow at the Berkman Center and a Visiting Assistant Professor at Duke Law School.
