One Day University Film School presents, "Robot & Frank," followed by a lecture with Roger Berkowitz at the Manhattan Movement Arts Center on 10/19 at 2pm.
This film explores the depths of friendship and even love between a robot and a man. Though the film is a comedy, the underlying questions it raises are both timely and serious. What is friendship? Can a machine love? More importantly, what happens when humans fall in love with machines? How fine is the line between the artificial intelligence of a sophisticated robot and the humanity of an actual human being? Are we merely an amalgamation of biochemical components, or is there something inscrutably human impervious to mechanical reproduction? Should humans be permitted to marry robots? Should robots be entrusted to raise our children? How will the unstoppable and increasing use of robots as friends, lovers, and caregivers transform the human world? These issues (and others) will be the focus of Professor Berkowitz's insightful lecture. CLICK HERE to watch the trailer.
