Publii Virgilii Maronis Opera
11-07-2014Hannah Arendt had a copy of Publii Virgilii Maronis Opera, or The Works of Virgil, in her personal library. This particular collection is edited and assembled by Christian Gottlob Heyne, an 18th century German classics scholar. In addition to offering commentary on the likes of Tibullus and Homer, Heyne was the longtime director of the Göttingen State and University Library, one of the largest libraries in Germany with over 4.5 million volumes archived on-site.
Do you have pictures of your own personal Arendt library? If so, we'd love to see them! Please send your photos to David Bisson, our Media Coordinator, at [email protected], and they may just be published on our weekly Library feature!
