Diego Sánchez spent his childhood as an undocumented migrant to the U.S. After receiving temporary legal status through the DACA program, he pushed tirelessly for American citizenship to be granted to "Dreamers" who were brought to the U.S. as children. He met with both Barack Obama and Donald Trump. Diego and his friends went to Congress seeking help.
Standing in his way was Jim Robb and his organization and their allies. Concerned that the Senate Gang of Eight bill would double legal immigration and harm American workers, they stirred the public to oppose the bill. The bill died.
A few years later, however, something unexpected happened. Braver Angels decided to stage a conference of immigration policy leaders in Washington. Diego and Jim were seated next to each other.
Instead of fighting, they quickly grew to like and respect each other and listen to each other's views. Their friendship blossomed. They became leaders of the Braver Angels Citizens Commission on Immigration, an initiative to seek agreement on immigration.
