The Classics in Religion group will be discussing Housekeeping and Robinson’s theological writing. Marilynne Robinson, a Christian writer, weaves Biblical parallels, symbolism, and allusions into her lyrical novel, which has been described as a female version of Moby Dick. Robinson’s later novels are Gilead and Home. Housekeeping is a winner of the PEN/Hemingway award, and it is this year’s community “Big Read” selection.
The leaders of the series will be Debbie Schnide and Kathy DeMatteo. They are retired teachers and members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Catskills. Debbie taught art for the Kingston City Schools and Kathy taught English at Andes and Sidney.
