Hannah Arendt: Facing Tyranny takes a closer look at one of the most fearless political writers of modern times. This is a rare opportunity to watch the film, which is being introduced by award-winning documentary producer/director/writer Chana Gazit, and hear a discussion with two of the experts interviewed in the film: Founder and Academic Director of the Hannah Arendt Center at Bard Roger Berkowitz, and Bard College President Leon Botstein, a former student and colleague of Arendt. Premiered on PBS nationwide Friday, June 27, 2025, the documentary is anchored in Hannah Arendt’s life experience, including her resistance against the Nazi regime, working to help Jewish children escape to Palestine, her relationship with the esteemed philosopher and Nazi Martin Heidegger and her time in a prisoner of war camp before fleeing to the United States.
The screening at Weis Cinema begins at 6p with discussion right after the film. Free and open to the public. Bard students, faculty, and staff are especially encouraged! The event is co-sponsored by the Office of Development and Alumni/ae Affairs and the President's Office.
