Hannah Arendt Center presents:
Is Liberalism Compatible with Solidarity?
Part of The 2026 Arendt Forum on Solidarity: What Are We Fighting For?
Thursday, October 15, 2026
Olin Hall
11:30 am
This event occurs on:
Thu. October 15, 11:30 am
Patrick Deneen has argued that liberalism’s deepest failure lies in its inability to sustain the forms of solidarity on which freedom and shared life depend. In Why Liberalism Failed and Regime Change, he contends that liberalism has failed “not because it fell short, but because it was true to itself”: its pursuit of individual autonomy has weakened the moral, cultural, and communal bonds that make genuine self-government possible.
Following his talk, Deneen will be in conversation with Chris Gibson, an author, academic, veteran, and former Congressman, and Zephyr Teachout, an author and Professor of Law at Fordham Law School where she focuses on the intersection of corporate power and political power.
Join us at Bard College this October 15-17 or via livestream at The Hannah Arendt Center's newly renamed and rebranded annual fall gathering, The Arendt Forum. Free to the Bard community and to HAC members.
